Agriscience
Our agriscience pathway is our most popular pathway! Our courses integrate scientific principles through hands-on learning and frequent laboratory experiments that teach students about the impacts and efficiency of modern agriculture. Read more about each of our classes below!
Agricultural Biology
Freshmen
*counts as your freshmen biology credit!*
Our ag biology course is an approved A-G lab science, and counts the same as regular biology for high school graduation requirements and college enterence requirements. In ag biology, students learn the same exact course material, only with a hands-on approach to learning and a focus on agriculture!
This course emphasizes biological processes from cells to organisms to ecosystems. Students will be actively engaged in laboratory investigations and projects which cover soil science, fertilizers, crops, and natural resources. In previous years, our classes learn about food science by making bread, learn about hydroponics, and spend time in our greenhouses. Instruction is also given in leadership, citizenship, and complete their own SAE project.
Chemistry & Agriscience
Sophmores
*counts as your sophomore chemistry credit!*
Similar to our ag biology course, our ag chem class is also an A-G approved lab science course, and counts the same for high school graduation and college entrance requirements. We teach the exact same material as a regular chemistry class would learn, with a focus on chemistry as it applies to agriculture!
This course explores the physical and chemical nature of soil as well as the relationships between soil, plants, animals and agricultural practices. Students will examine properties of soil and land and their connections to plant and animal production. In this class, our students have worked with hatching chicks, studying growth of puppies, and learning about combustion with hot cheetos. This course integrates biological science practices and knowledge into the practice of sustainable agriculture.
Agriculture Systems Management
Juniors and Seniors
*offered in the 2025-2026 school year*
Ag Systems Management is a lab science students can take as a extra class their junior or senior year. Many colleges require an additional year of lab science credit. This class is dual enrollment through Cuesta College, is the capstone to a CTE pathway (if students have taken ag bio and ag chem).
This course introduces students to a multitide of career options in the agriculture industry. Students learn about production systems, frequently take tours of local industries and departments at Cal Poly, and hear from professionals in their respective fields.
