Animal Science

The animal science pathway equips students with essential knowledge and skills related to the care, management, and understanding of animals. This pathway prepares students for diverse career opportunities in agriculture, veterinary medicine, research, and more!

Small Animal Pre-Vet

All Grade Levels

Offered in the 2025-2026 school year

Our small animal pre-vet course is designed to provide students with a foundational understanding of veterinary science, focusing specifically on small animals such as dogs and cats. In this elective class, we cover biology, anatomy, physiology, and veterinary medicine. Students learn about the basics of animal care, preform health assessments, and gain hands-on experience in handling, grooming, and basic medical procedures. This class aims to introduce students to the responsibilities and challenges of veterinary care.

Animal Science

This course is designed to provide students with an applied scientific study in the area of large animal livestock species and livestock for agriculture production. It focuses on the application of large animal anatomical and physiological knowledge to the maintenance and improvement of animal health. It includes clinical diagnosis of disease and parasites, administration of medications, and common production practices. Units include Introduction to Animal Science [Animals and Society], Swine, Equine, Dairy Cattle, Beef Cattle, Sheep, and Reproductive Physiology. An additional emphasis will be placed on industry practices including office procedures, public relations and communications, and laboratory skills.

A-G Lab Science Course

This CTE capstone course is designed to provide students an applied scientific study in the area of animals and veterinary care. This course focuses on the application of animal anatomical and physiological knowledge to the maintenance and improvement of animal health to include; clinical diagnosis of disease and parasites, administration of medications, and common surgical procedures. The feline dissection and various other livestock specimens will serve as a supplemental lab practicum throughout the duration of this course. Each unit includes a clinical practice component at the conclusion to put the knowledge learned into a real veterinary clinical situation.
